Why does my Alexa rank keep going down?

A friend of mine asked this question. He asked me what to do, since his website’s Alexa Rank keeps going down by day. This article is written to answer his question.

If you say that Alexa rank falls, it means your alexa rank number value increases. Since Alexa Rank is different from Page Rank, the smaller your Alexa Rank number goes, you can say that your website’s traffic is better. Now, I will explain how Alexa ranks a website.

Alexa’s calculation in determining Alexa Rank

Alexa ranks a website by considering the amount of visitors a website get. Moreover, Alexa also considers the average amount of pages viewed by visitors. Therefore, in order to prevent your Alexa Rank from decreasing, as a webmaster you should do the following. Aside from focusing on how to increase visitors, you need to make sure that visitors do not immediately move away from your website but rather accessing other pages on your website. Alexa Rank’s weakness is that it can still be manipulated, because it does not work by placing tracker scripts in a website, unlike many other web stats providers. It works by placing Alexa toolbar on user’s browser. Therefore the amount of visitors a website has is accounted to the amount of browsers attached with alexa toolbar which access the website.

Back to the primary question, Why does my Alexa Rank keep going down?

There are 3 possibilities:

1. Your website gets less visitors
2. The pages accessed by visitors in a single visit are decreased
3. Your visitor does not install Alexa toolbar on their browser

To improve your Alexa Rank, maintain the first two options, whereas the last option can not be controlled. You may use alexa toolbar on your browser, open your website, access several pages, close, and repeat. I highly do not recommend this, since it is very absurd.
